COMMON-SENSE PHILOSOPHY
*****************************************
The WORD "philosophy" comes from the Greek φιλοσοφία (philosophia), which literally means "love of wisdom".
Philosophy is distinguished from other ways of addressing such problems by its critical, generally systematic approach and its reliance on rational argument.
In more casual speech
the "philosophy" of a particular person
can refer to the beliefs held by that person.
There are at least two senses in which the term philosophy is used.
(1) In the more informal sense, philosophy is a way of life
whose focus is resolving the existential questions about the human condition.
(2) In the more formal sense, philosophy is an intellectual endeavor focusing on the fields of metaphysics, logic, ethics, epistemology, and aesthetics.
Philosophy is distinguished from other ways of addressing these questions (such as mysticism or mythology)by itscritical, generally systematic approach and its reliance on reasoned argument.
